Research Interests

Adrienne Csizmady, PhD. habil. is a research professor at the Institute for Sociology of the Center of Social Sciences, Budapest. She was Director of the Institute of Sociology from 2015 to 2023. She is also a professor of sociology at Department of Sociology University of Szeged Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, (SZTE). Graduated in sociology (1995), received her PhD in sociology (2001), and made her habilitation at Eötvös Lorand University (ELTE) Budapest (2008). She has over 30 years’ of experience in empirical research examining urban related topics such as gentrification, suburbanization or tourism.The main fields of her research interests are urban social problems including social consequences of urban renewal, over-tourism, sustainable social environment, culture and heritage, suburbanisation, integration strategies of people moving from town to country. She has led as NC and contributed to several international and as a PI to national comparative researches. Among others: RE-DWELL, RURALIZATION, OIKOnet, EDUlife. She is an Expert and Monitor of H2020 (2018/2019) and was Expert and Reviewer of EU FP7 (2012/2014/2016) project proposals. Her publication list includes nearly 200 journal articles, conference papers, books, book chapters and textbooks in Hungarian and English. She published her papers in journals such as the International Journal of Housing Policy, Journal of Policy Research in Tourism Leisure and Events, Tourism Geographies, Social Inclusion, Sustainability, Critical Housing Analysis, Urban Planning and others.
