The three-year project COURAGE was launched on February 1, 2016. It aims to present the online and offline, private and public collections dealing with the cultural heritage of the former socialist countries of Europe. The main objective of the international consortium is to strengthen the position of these collections in the cultural scene, and to make the heritage of the East-European opposition an essential part of contemporary European culture. The comprehensive study covers 16 countries from the German Democratic Republic through the Baltic states to Ukraine. The effective social exploitation of the collections will be enhanced by organizing seminars, film festivals, exhibitions, an online database, and developing a curriculum in each country involved.

Twelve outstanding universities or research institutes of ten countries will contribute to the research both from Eastern and Western Europe, with about 150 researchers. The total budget of the project is nearly 2.5 million euros for 36 months.
