ATK „Lendület” RECENS (Research Center for Educational and Network Studies) Kutatócsoport a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia „Lendület” programjának köszönhetően 2012. szeptember 1-ével kezdte el működését, szervezetileg közvetlenül a TK-ban önálló kutatócsoportként.

EVILTONGUE No Sword Bites So Fiercly as an Evil Tongue? Gossip Wrecks Reputation, but Enhances Cooperation
Social norms in general, and norms of cooperation in particular, are the cement of all human societies. For the difficult problems of the maintenance and enforcement of social norms and of cooperation, humans have developed surprisingly complex solutions. Reputation mechanisms and gossip are certainly among the compound informal solutions.
According to common wisdom, gossip channels mainly negative and often fictitious information. If it is the case: how can dishonest gossip and the resulting biased reputations legitimize social order and promote cooperation?
This is the main puzzle we tackle in the this project exploiting a wide set of instruments. We use analytical modeling and agent-based simulation to derive hypotheses. We test simple hypotheses in small group experiments. We develop new methodological tools to appropriately analyze the triadic nature of gossip embedded in network flows of information. We utilize dynamic network datasets from primary and secondary school classes, and we gather qualitative and quantitative information from organizations to test conditional hypotheses about the role that gossip plays in reputation and cooperation in different developmental and social contexts of life. In addition, we apply new communication technologies currently under development to explore the hidden world of gossip and the dynamics of reputation in dormitories and organizations.
With the insights gained, we can overcome common stereotypes about gossip and highlight how gossip is related to credible reputational signals, cooperation, and social order. Expected results will help us to outline the conditions that can promote cooperation in work groups, and they will help to construct successful prevention strategies for social exclusion and for other potentially harmful consequences of the evil tongue.

A Gyerekesély-kutató Csoport elsődleges feladata a hátrányos helyzetű térségekben indított gyerekszegénység elleni programok (EFOP 1.4.2, EFOP 1.4.3) megvalósításának szakmai támogatása alap- és alkalmazott kutatásokkal. Kutatásaink kiterjednek például a gyerekszegénységgel és a gyerekesélyekkel foglalkozó hazai és nemzetközi szakirodalom gyűjtésére (Gyerekesély Tudástár) vagy a gyermekes családok életkörülményeinek és szükségleteinek kérdőíves felmérésére a leghátrányosabb helyzetű magyarországi régiókban. Számos gyerekszegénységgel és gyerekesélyekkel összefüggő témában végzünk ún. tematikus kutatásokat, egyebek mellett a tinédzserterhességek és korai iskolaelhagyás kapcsolatáról, a családi pótlék és az iskolába járás összefüggéseiről, a közösségi házak és terek funkcióiról vagy a szociális ellátórendszer minőségi változásáról. A csoport koordinálja továbbá a térségi programok tevékenységének monitorozását, részt vesz a helyi projektek időközi és záró értékelésében, a program megvalósítás eredményességének és fenntarthatóságának vizsgálatában és a „Legyen Jobb a Gyermekeknek!” Nemzeti Stratégia Értékelő Bizottságának munkájában. Konferencia szereplésekkel és publikációkkal aktív szerepet töltünk be a Gyerekesély program eredményeinek disszeminációjában.
Az MTA 2008-tól a Gyerekszegénység Elleni Programiroda (GYEP), majd 2011-től a Gyerekesély-kutató Csoport révén vett részt a TÁMOP 5.2.1., majd 2016 áprilisától öt éven át részt vesz az EFOP 1.4.1 kiemelt programban. A Gyerekesély-kutató Csoport az MTA TK önálló kutatócsoportjaként a Szociális és Gyermekvédelmi Főigazgatósággal (SZGYF) és a Magyar Máltai Szeretetszolgálattal (MMSZ) konzorciumban végzi tevékenységét.
