Research Interests

Éva Kovács, PhD is a research professor at the Center of Social Sciences, Budapest and deputy director of academic affairs at the Vienna Wiesenthal Institute for Holocaust Studies. Kovács studied sociology and economics at the Karl Marx University in Budapest, PhD 1994, Habilitation 2009. Her research fields are the history of the Holocaust in Eastern Europe, research on memory and remembrance, identities and ethnicities. She has also taught qualitative research methodology, social theory and the history of sociology for over 30 years, currently at the ELTE Doctoral School of Sociology. So far, he has supervised 16 PhD candidates. She has authored five monographs, edited ten volumes, published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, co-curated exhibitions in Budapest, Berlin, Bratislava, Krems, Prague, Vienna and Warsaw. She is the founder of the audio-visual archive “Voices of the Twentieth Century” in Budapest.  She is the editor-in-chief of the online journal S:I.M.O.N. and member of the editorial team of the socio.hu. She was partner or research leader to numerous European FP7 and Horizon 2020 research projects (FEMAGE, DIOSCURI, COURAGE, EHRI-1, EHRI-2, EHRI-3, EHRI-PP). Her publication list includes over 250 articles and book chapters in journals such as East European Politics and Societies, Forum Qualitative Sozialforschung, Journal of Genocide Research, Osteuropa,European Review, Dapim: Studies on the Holocaust.
